Here a just a few ways you can help spread the word about suicide prevention on your campus and in the community to support the work of The Samaritans of Rhode Island.
Note: It is against state and municipal law in Rhode Island to post signs on public property including bridges and light poles or on private property without permission of appropriate authorities. Please do NOT post our Crisis Hotline/Listening Line number without permission. State and local authorities will remove such signs.
Start a Campus Based Student Club
At Brown University, students formed a club called Brown Student Volunteers for The Samaritans. Club members are eager to share what they have done to raise awareness about suicide prevention and volunteering for The Samaritans of Rhode Island. Learn more here.
Class Work
Need to do a class project? Use this website and our brochures to create a term paper, distribute information or make a class presentation.
Peer to Peer Education
Are you part of “peer to peer” group at your school? Educate your campus community about suicide prevention. The Samaritans need partners who can help spread the word about suicide prevention. Consider hosting an information table at a school health fair or consider assisting the Samaritans by incorporating the agency and the subject of suicide prevention into your senior project.
Volunteer for The Samaritans of RI
Are you at least 18 years of age and in college? Then you may be eligible to be a Samaritan Crisis Hotline/Listening Line Volunteer. To learn more, click Here!
Help support The Samaritans of RI by promoting our “Every Penny Counts Campaign!”
Register The Samaritans of RI as your charity on GoodSearch.com and every time you search or shop online, a donation will be made to The Samaritans of RI by GoodSearch or the participating store where you shopped.
Other Community Service Opportunities
Suicide prevention awareness days and campus based fund raisers support our Youth and Teen Suicide prevention programs and spread the word about suicide prevention.
- Host a day of remembrance on your campus. We can provide a guest speaker as well as brochures and magnets for distribution
- Host charitable fund raising events such as dress down days, candy sales, yard sales, car washes, cover changes for special events, etc.
These are just a few examples of how Rhode Island students help us to promote suicide prevention. Use your imagination and creative resources to support the cause!
