Why support The Samaritans of Rhode Island?
Everyone at The Samaritans of RI is devoted to suicide prevention and ensuring our programs continue to be offered without cost to residents of our state.
By our mission, all core programs are provided free of charge. We offer universal, lifetime support, without regard to health/behavioral health status; third party reimbursements or ability to pay. Accordingly, we must rely annually on philanthropy to fund our programs and volunteerism to keep our Crisis Hotline/Listeninng Line open and accessible to those in need.
With costs for administration and fund development at a mere 20%, our focus remains – to serve Rhode Island’s hopeless, alone, suicidal, their caregivers and those who have lost a loved one to suicide.
No matter their story… no one is turned away.
Anticipated benefits for The Samaritans
- Improve our ability to reach out to and serve Rhode Islanders who are hopeless, alone, suicidal and to better serve those who care for them;
- Address gaps in receiving optimal emotional health care services in Rhode Island especially for the disenfranchised – particularly those for whom care is not adequate, not responsive, no longer available or will never be available;
- Promote access to health/behavioral health and suicide prevention information and knowledge appropriate to Rhode Islanders and their needs;
- Support and enhance the body of knowledge available on effectiveness of locally based and designed volunteer Crisis Hotline/Listening Line programs as an effective long-term response to local unmet mental and emotional health needs. This will be learned through the ongoing evaluation using our Outcomes Based Logic Model evaluation tool.
