Welcome
The Samaritans – Rhode Island’s most trusted name in suicide prevention since 1977.
Established in Providence in 1977, the Rhode Island branch of The Samaritans is a statewide, independent, nonprofit, non-religious, philanthropic organization. We are recognized by the IRS as a charitable 501(c)(3) organization.
Welcome to our new website!
In January 2004, The Samaritans of RI posted its first website. Since that year, we have hosted more than 103,949 website visitors.
In the last seven years, we have learned much from Rhode Islanders about how they view the role of The Samaritans. At the same time, on our Crisis Hotline/Listening Line, we hear of the challenges our fellow citizens face accessing care as well as their problems finding information regarding suicide prevention and support for those who have lost a loved one to suicide.
We have also learned about so many for whom access to care is no longer available or will never be an option.
We’ve listened to your questions, issues and concerns and have done our best to provide useful information for all the sectors of our state. Please know, however, it is a work in progress and we will be updating and adding more information regularly.
Just as our Crisis Hotline/Listening Line works, this website is designed as a self-help empowerment model.
We encourage you to explore:
- City and Town Resources
- FAQ about Suicide
- Why seek Professional Care
- Suicide Emergency Checklist
- Grief Support
- Help for Everyone – includes information for those in need as well as professionals.
- Youth Resources – dedicated to teens, college students, parents and educators.
We hope you find this site useful.
Please return often so you can learn more about suicide prevention and the work of The Samaritans of Rhode Island!
